HUNDREDS of people worried about climate change flocked to a meeting about the subject this week.
Visitors from London, Suffolk and Essex listened to Friends of the Earth’s director Tony Juniper speak passionately about the urgency to reduce the causes of climate change.
He said: “It is our ambition to have the proposed climate change bill, known as EDM 178, included in this year’s Queen’s speech”
Kim Power, co-ordinator of the Friends of the Earth volunteer group, added: “As a group we have worked hard towards gaining the support of all local MPs for the climate change bill.
“I’m delighted that, partly due to our campaigning and lobbying, Southend MP David Amess and Billericay MP John Baron have signed the EDM 178.
“The Queen’s speech is on November 15, so let’s hope there is some good news within it.”
Last month, Environment Secretary David Miliband said people ‘should be scared’ by global warming.
